African American Infant Adoption

AAI Grant Project
Financial empowerment for your African-American infant adoption

Are you ready to adopt?

Are financial barriers standing in your way?

At WACAP, we make it a priority to help all eligible families adopt, regardless of income.

Thanks to our no-interest loan fund and new grant project, adopting an African-American infant is more affordable than ever.

Eligibility Requirements
Adoptive family income (this information must be recorded in your tax returns for the past three years):
  • A maximum of $60,000 adjusted gross income for a two-parent home.
  • A maximum of $40,000 adjusted gross income for a single-parent home.
Age: Parents must be 25–45 years old.

Number of children in the home: Preference will be given to families who have no children.

Gender and ethnicity: Parents adopting through the AAI program may not choose a child’s gender or ethnicity; most children in the AAI program are African-American, some are biracial or multiracial.

Involvement: Parents must have demonstrated involvement in an African-American community.

Readiness to adopt: After acceptance into the AAI Grant Project, your family must submit a homestudy within four months.

Note: Due to state adoption laws, families in New York are not currently eligible for AAI adoptions through WACAP.

WACAP’s African-American Infant Adoption Team would be happy to discuss with you how this type of adoption could work for your family. Please call 206-575-4550 or for more information.
